Jack Morris (great-great-grandfather)..

Yacov Moshe Einachovski (or Einachovitz), the son of Zev Ariah H'Cohen, and his wife Sarah/Jane Lidvinofski lived in Lemberg, Bialystock in Polish Lithuania with their seven children - Chava (b.1868), Meir, Solomon, Joseph, Hyman (b.1879), Leah (b.1880) and Samuel (b.1889).

Yacov, a cabinet maker, settled property on Chava (who at the time was married to Avraham Freizeit) and emigrated to England with his wife and five of his children. On arrival in 1889, Yaacov Moshe became Jack Morris and they settled in Cheetham Hill, Manchester. 

In 1909 Jacob and Sarah/Jane were living with their son Hymie at 10 Atlantic Avenue, Belfast.

Jack Morris died on 20th June 1917, aged 69, at 21 North Street in Cheetham, Lancashire of pneumonia and heart failure; the death was registerd by his son Joseph. He is buried at Urmston cemetery in Salford; the inscription on his gravestone reads "Yacov Moshe ben Zev Ariah H'Cohen, In living memory of Jacob Moses Morris who died June 21st 1917 aged 69 years. Deeply mourned by his sons and daughters". 

It is presumed that his his wife pre-deceased him, but this has not been confirmed. There is no entry for Jack Morris in the calendars at the Probate Registry. 

 

Chava Einachovski (great-grandmother)...

Chava, daughter of Yaacov Moshe Einachovski, was born about 1868 in Lemberg, Bialystock in Polish Lithuania. 

Chava married Avraham Freiceit, probably before 1889, and had a family of nine children: Yetta (b.1888), Rosie, Sophie (b.1892), Max (b.1893), Leah (b.1897) and Sam (b.1903) later emigrated to England; Aidel, Fradel and Zundle remained in Augustow with their parents.

Chava and Avraham attended the wedding of her brother Max in Manchester in 1925.

At the outbreak of WW2, the Russian army occupied Augustow as part of the non-aggression pact with Germany.  In 1941 the German army attacked Russia and advanced further into Poland occupying Augustow. The villagers, including the families of Aidel, Freidel and Zundel, were taken to a field outside the village and shot.  Their names are recorded in the Yizkor Book for Augustow.

 

Meir Einachovski (great-great-uncle)...

Meir, son of Yaacov Moshe Einachovski, was born in Lemberg, Bialystock in Polish Lithuania.

Meir had a deaf and dumb son - Toby - who married a woman with one eye.

 

Solomon Morris (great-great-uncle)...

Solomon, son of Yaacov Moshe Einachovski, was born in Augustow, PolandHe was taken to England with his brothers and sister, where he became Solomon Morris.

He is believed to have married a Catholic woman from Cork and had a son - Harry.

 

Hymie Morris (great-great-uncle)...

Hyman, son of Yaacov Moshe Einachovski was born 1879 in Augustow, Poland.  He was taken to England with his brothers and sister, where he became Hymie Morris.

Hymie, a money lender, married Fanny Faust in Manchester. They had four children - Leslie (b.1907), Stella (b.1909), Arther (b.1911) and Evelyn (b.1914).  After his wife's death in 1928, Hymie married Sadie Fink; they had one son - Laurence.

Hyman Morris, son of Jacob and Sarah (sic) Morris, a draper of 10 Atlantic Avenue, Belfast was naturalized as a British subject in November 1909.

Hymie died in 1952 in Manchester.

 

Leah Morris (great-great-aunt)...

Leah, daughter of Yaacov Moshe Einachovski, was born in Lemberg, Bialystock in Polish Lithuania.  She was taken to England with her brothers by her parents.  The family settled in Cheetham Hill, Manchester where she became Leah Morris.

Leah married Abraham Coppel; they had five children - Harold (b.1902), Isaac (b.1904), Marcus (b.1905), Henry (b.1907) and Laura (b.1909).

Leah died in 1965 in Belfast.

This branch of the family tree includes the following family names -  Taylor, Anderson, Herron, Varley, Goldstone, Fielding, Alimi.

 

Joseph Morris (great-great-uncle)...

Joseph, son of Yaacov Moshe Einachovski, was born in Lemberg, Bialystock in Polish Lithuania.  He was taken to England with his brothers and sister, where he became Joe Morris.

Joe married Julia Oleesky, who died age 32 in 1912; they had four children - Sam (b.1902), Harold, Stella (b.1903) and Sylvia (b.1911).  He then married Selma Elison by whom he had three sons - Jeffrey (b.1914), Edward (b.1915 and Harold.

Joe (a cabinet maker) was living at 87 Heywood Street, Cheetham, Lancashire in 1917, and died about 1955 in Manchester.

This branch of the family tree includes the following family names -  Bernstone, Johnson, Barnett, Kramer,Cohen.

 

Sam  Morris (great-great-uncle)...

Yissocher, son of Yaacov Moshe Einachovski, was born in Lemberg, Bialystock in Polish Lithuania.  At six months of age he was taken to England with his brothers and sister, and Yissocher became Sam Morris.

Sam joined his sister Leah in Belfast, Ireland and whilst living at 79 Main Street, Larne, Co.Antrim, he was naturalized as a British subject.

Sam was introduced to Ethel Levine (formerly Lewinsky) by Leah; they were married and had three children - Isadore/Bernard (b.1916), Jacque/Yaacov (b.1920) and Joan (b.1924).  Sam managed a pawnbroking establishment owned by his father-in-law.

Sam died in Belfast at the age of 76.
